Join Us for a Rim Country Chamber Breakfast – Building Community & Real Estate Together

By Dennis Riccio, President, Central Arizona Association of REALTORS®

The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce has been a catalyst for local business development for over four decades, helping our mountain communities thrive[1]. As President of the Central Arizona Association of REALTORS® (CAAR), I am excited to invite all our members and business partners to a special Business Breakfast on October 1, 2025 (8:30–10:00 AM) at the Mazatzal Casino in Payson. We’ll be joined by two distinguished chamber leaders, Andrew “Andy” Strader, the chamber’s long-time president, and Jimmie Lee, the chamber’s current Executive Director, who will share insights on what the Chamber is doing in Rim Country and how it impacts our local real estate market.

Rim Country Chamber: A Legacy of Growth and Partnership

Founded in the early 1980s, the Rim Country Chamber of Commerce has provided “leadership, marketing, and resources for small business owners of the greater Payson area for decades”[1]. Originally a Payson-focused chamber, it expanded its reach in 1998 to become a regional chamber uniting communities across Rim Country (Pine, Strawberry, Star Valley, Tonto Basin, Young, and more). This regional approach has strengthened the “working partnership” of businesses and professionals across northern Gila County[2].
Under the guidance of leaders like Andy Strader – who has faithfully served as Chamber President since 2019 – the chamber has achieved numerous milestones. For example, earlier this year the Chamber hosted its inaugural Business & Community Awards event to honor local excellence[3]. The chamber is also a certified Arizona Office of Tourism Visitor Center, welcoming thousands of visitors each year and promoting Rim Country’s attractions. These efforts not only boost local businesses but also enhance our area’s visibility and appeal.

Today, the Chamber continues to evolve with the times. Jimmie Lee, who was named Executive Director effective September 1, 2025, brings a fresh wave of energy and experience[4]. A former White House official under President George W. Bush, Jimmie has a strong background in economic and community development[4]. His leadership signals the Chamber’s commitment to innovative growth. The Chamber team (staff and volunteer board) works tirelessly to support everything from mom-and-pop shops to new entrepreneurs. In fact, the Chamber recently launched a Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase in July, partnering with a local business owner to help “local children dream big and take action”[5], a wonderful example of planting seeds for Rim Country’s future business (and perhaps future REALTORS®!).

Chamber Successes and Initiatives Shaping Rim Country

Over the years, the Rim Country Chamber has amassed a track record of successes that benefit both business and community. Some highlights and ongoing initiatives include:

  • Business Networking & Education: The Chamber hosts regular mixers, workshops, and forums (like our upcoming breakfast) that connect business owners with resources and each other. These events forge relationships across industries, including giving REALTORS® opportunities to meet new business owners moving to town or learn about developments that could impact property demand.
  • Community Events & Recognition: From coordinating annual festivals to launching the Business & Community Awards in 2025, the Chamber celebrates what makes Rim Country special[3]. Such events not only boost community pride but draw visitors and potential homebuyers to the region. The awards program in particular has shone a spotlight on outstanding local businesses and volunteers, reinforcing a positive climate for investment.
  • Visitor Center & Tourism Promotion: Operating the Rim Country Regional Visitor Center, the Chamber is often the first stop for tourists and newcomers. By providing travel information and marketing local attractions, the Chamber stimulates our tourism economy. In real estate terms, tourism promotion can convert short-term visitors into long-term residents or investors. (Who hasn’t had a client first discover Payson on a weekend trip and decide to buy a cabin here?)
  • Advocacy and Economic Development: The Chamber serves as a unified voice for business in dialogues with local government. It has advocated for infrastructure improvements, streamlined permitting, and other business-friendly policies. These efforts help attract new employers and amenities, which in turn create jobs and increase demand for housing. Indeed, chamber professionals often play a crucial role in development projects, fostering job creation and even increasing property values in the community[6]. Our Rim Country Chamber has been involved in initiatives like downtown revitalization and expanding broadband access, enhancing the quality of life that makes our region attractive.
  • Community Improvement & Talent: In today’s world, chambers go beyond business—they tackle broader challenges. Workforce development (ensuring local employers have the talent they need) and even housing issues are now on the radar of many chambers[7]. While Rim Country has unique housing constraints, the Chamber’s collaborative approach, for example, partnering on discussions about affordable housing or workforce housing, can help ease shortages that affect real estate. Every new problem the Chamber helps solve (be it housing, childcare, or public safety) makes our towns more livable and our property market more stable[7].

In short, the Chamber’s successes are community successes. By advancing local businesses and nurturing projects for the common good, they create a rising tide that lifts all boats, including real estate. A thriving small-business scene, well-attended events, and proactive civic improvements translate into stronger property values, more confident buyers, and a healthy environment for real estate professionals to succeed.

Rim Country’s quality of life – from charming cabins in the pines to vibrant local businesses – is bolstered by Chamber initiatives, which in turn supports a robust real estate market.

Through efforts like those above, our Chamber helps ensure that Rim Country remains not only a wonderful place to visit, but also a desirable place to live, work, and invest. As REALTORS®, we feel these positive impacts when we see steady growth in our market and newcomers falling in love with our community.

How the Chamber’s Role Impacts Real Estate

What does all this mean specifically for real estate in Rim Country? In a nutshell, a strong chamber of commerce often correlates with a strong housing market. Here are a few key ways the Chamber’s work intersects with and benefits real estate:

  • Economic Growth Drives Housing Demand: When the Chamber attracts new businesses or helps existing ones expand, jobs are created and the local economy grows. More jobs = more people looking for homes. By fostering entrepreneurship and investment, the Chamber indirectly boosts demand for both residential and commercial properties. Studies have noted that chamber-fueled projects contribute to job creation and rising property values locally[6]. As the area prospers, we see families moving in, seeking housing and creating a vibrant real estate market.
  • Community Appeal and Quality of Life: Realtors know that location is more than scenery, it’s also about amenities and lifestyle. The Chamber’s advocacy for parks, events, and improvements (from better roads to downtown beautification) enhances Rim Country’s quality of life. This makes our towns more attractive to homebuyers. Whether it’s supporting the arts, coordinating the farmers market, or improving outdoor recreation opportunities, Chamber-led initiatives give us selling points to entice buyers. A community that’s thriving and well-promoted by its chamber becomes an easier sell for us as REALTORS®.
  • Tourism and Second-Home Market: By promoting Rim Country through tourism channels, the Chamber helps draw in visitors who often turn into future property owners. Many of us have sold homes to folks who initially came up for a weekend and decided to purchase a cabin or retirement home after experiencing the charm of Payson, Pine or Strawberry. The Chamber’s role in tourism (running the visitor center, marketing regional destinations) is essentially marketing our real estate to the world. Every visitor who falls in love with Rim Country’s cool pines or friendly downtown might be a client down the road.
  • Information & Networking for REALTORS®: An active chamber keeps a pulse on local developments – from new subdivisions to incoming businesses or zoning changes – and shares this information with its members. By engaging with the Chamber, real estate professionals can stay informed about upcoming projects that could impact property inventory or values. Chamber events also allow us to network with business owners and community leaders; these relationships can lead to referrals and valuable insights. In fact, local chambers are widely seen as “trusted partner[s] for businesses” and drivers of a strong economy[8][9]. Being involved gives REALTORS® credibility and connection. Simply put, the Chamber helps bridge connections between real estate and the broader business community.
  • Advocacy on Housing and Growth Issues: Lastly, when it comes to housing policy and smart growth, the Chamber’s voice matters. Our Rim Country Chamber can collaborate with town officials on plans for sustainable growth, whether that’s supporting a new housing development, advocating for infrastructure that opens up land for building, or finding solutions to ensure our workforce can afford to live here. Chambers nationwide are increasingly tackling issues like housing affordability as part of strengthening communities[7]. We can look to our Chamber as an ally in addressing any local housing challenges that arise as Rim Country grows.

In essence, the Chamber creates an environment where businesses flourish and people want to live, the foundation of a healthy real estate market. As your CAAR President (and a fellow Realtor), I encourage all of us to recognize and leverage this synergy. Supporting the Chamber isn’t just “civic goodwill,” it’s good business for real estate.
